EventsMarathon & Half MarathonThe course starts and finishes at the grassy field near Navarino Nature Center. The trail winds through thick pine forest, oak savannah, and through prairie dominated by Big Blue Stem grasses.However, over half the route follows the shoreline of the wildlife rich Pikes Peak, Loop, and 80-Acre Flowages, including the much loved southern ridge and its abundance of inspiring vistas. The route also includes boardwalks through lush tamarack ringed bogs. The trail is relatively wide the entire distance with a firm dirt, mowed grass, or moss covered surface. The marathon course consists of two 13.1 mile loops. The half marathon is one loop. Aid stations at 3.5, 5.5, 7.5, 10.0, 13.1, 16.6,18.6, 20.6, 23.1 with cold water, Hammer Nutritionʼs HEED energy/electrolyte drink, and HammerGel. Runners must carry a 20 oz water bottle to refill at aid stations. Volunteers with pitchers will refill your bottle or hydration system quickly. A six hour time limit is strictly enforced in the marathon. There is a limit of 200 runners for both events combined. Once this limit is reached, registration will be closed. 6 KmThis course also starts and finishes in the grassy field by the Navarino Nature Center. It features a beautiful undulating loop course winding through pine forest, oak savannah, and a short section alongone of the Nature Centerʼs prairies. 6K runners are also treated to trips through the bogs along the boardwalks. This event is open to walkers. There is one aid station at 1.3 miles with cold water only.Starts @ 10:00 AM Navarino Nature Center. Map 1 Mile Kidʼs RunYoung runners will enjoy and be challenged by this one mile loop through the forest and along the bog boardwalk. Open to kids up to age 14. Parents may run with their kids. The 1 Mile Kid's Run will have aid at the finish line. Starts @ 11:30 AM, Navarino Nature Center. Map Post Race Cookout!All runners will be treated to a specially prepared lunch featuring foods grown, raised, or produced in Northeast Wisconsin. Menu: Buffalo & elk burgers on whole grain buns, cheddar cheese, cole slaw, cranberry relish, baked beans sweetened with maple syrup, and cherry cider. AwardsAll Runners: Custom printed organic cotton shirt. Marathon: All finishers will be awarded laser engraved medallions crafted from local hardwoods. Marathon, Half Marathon & 6 Km: Overall male and female winners receive a half gallon of Mehlbergʼs Maple Syrup produced in nearby Caroline. The top three runners in each age group will win selected one pound blocks of Aged Cheddar, Longhorn Colby, and Marble Jack Cheeses from Oak Grove Dairy in nearby Clintonville. 1 Mile Kidʼs Race: All youth runners will receive a pair of Smartwool socks. Runners will receive a receipt print out of the results. We recommend staying in Clintonville, but the community of Shawano is located about 18 miles northwest of the Nature Center, and also has a wide variety of lodging.
