Great Lakes Endurance has introduced two new snowshoe races for 2011.  Both events are in beautiful venues with abundant snow.  Tahquamenon Falls State Park is the location for the first event which will debut on Sunday, February 20.  The Tahquamenon Snowshoe Race will feature 20K, 10K, and 5K distances as well as a Kid’s 800 meter race. The 10K course will consist of 4.5 miles of machine packed trail and 1.7 miles of forested single track set with snowshoes.  The 20K course will travel the 10K course twice.  The 5K course contains about 2 miles of machine packed surface and 1 mile of snowshoe packed single track.  All races start and finish at the Upper Falls.  We will have a fire going in the fireplace on the deck at Camp 22 Restaurant.  The second snowshoe event will take place at Keyes Peak near Florence, Wisconsin and Iron Mountain, Michigan.  The event will feature 10K, 5K, and Kid’s 800 meter races.  All races will start and finish at the Keyes Peak Ski Lodge.  All races will feature panoramic vistas from atop Keyes Peak.  Male and female winners of the long races at each event will win new Atlas Snowshoes.  Other event winners will win gear from Mountain Hardwear.  Age group awards include local maple syrup, honey, and organic chocolate.  Registration is available now online for both the Tahquamenon and Keyes Peak Snowshoe Races.
