Runner’s World Special Trail issue hit the newsstands this spring. Among a selection of informative articles on trail running the editors produced a list of “32 of the top trail running races, from sea to shining sea.”  The Keyes Peak Trail Run was among them.  Other races on the list include the renowned Western States Endurance Run, The Dipsea, and the Mt. Cranmore Mountain Race.  “We are pleased that Keyes Peak, in only its second year, has achieved this kind of recognition.  It is a nod to the wild and unique nature of the course,” said race director Jeff Crumbaugh.  It was the only race in Wisconsin on the list and among only four from the midwest (the others were in Ohio, Indiana, and Iowa).  Keyes Peak has added a 50K this year to accompany its marathon & 10K.  The course includes dirt forest road, cross country ski trail, and single track as well as a crossing of the Pine River.  The start and finish of the event takes place at the Keyes Peak Ski Lodge, four miles southwest of Florence, Wisconsin.  This year the event has also developed a sister relationship with the Slickrock 50K in Moab, Utah.  Winners of the Keyes Peak 50K will win automatic entry in the Slickrock 50K, and vice versa.  “Our goal is to make Keyes Peak the top 50K in the midwest.  Recognition as one of the top trail races in North America is a significant step in meeting that goal,” noted Crumbaugh.
