Cool, sunny weather and light north winds provided optimal racing conditions on Grand Island on July 29 .  Complete results are available for viewing. 

The finish of the 50K was the closest in Grand Island history, with AJ Eckstein of Austin, TX (4:24:53.8) edging Simon Giraud of Holland, MI (4:24:53.9) by a mere tenth of a second. Josh Tuck of Fort Wayne, IN captured third (4:30:55).  Tarin Lachowitzer of Cedar Falls, IA won the women's 50K in 4:38:00, good for 4th runner overall. Completing the women's podium were Courtney Nigl of West Salem, WI (5:02:18) and Kristen Chisholm of Stevens Point, WI (5:06:09)

Former two time Rock River 50K champion Alex Dennis of Marquette, MI shifted down to the marathon at Grand Island  and took top honors with the only sub three hour performance of the day (2:52:48).  Noah Krzan of Kalamazoo, MI (3:14: 03) and Michael Holly of DePere, WI (3:15:19 ) completed the men's marathon podium.  Holly won the Two Hearted Trail Marathon in 2022.   The women's marathon title was captured by Joann Jeplawy of Wayland, MI (3:27:52).  Monica Anderson of Gwinn, MI (3:32:23) and Kate Kuntze of of Cedar River, MI (4:00:18) took 2nd and 3rd overall, respectively. 

Samuel Ohland of Portage, MI (1:26:45) edged out Caden Hostetler of LaGrange, IN (1:27:15) by 30 seconds for the half marathon title.  Earning the 3rd podium spot was Oliver Miatke of Duluth, MN ( 1:28:56).  Portage, MI was also home to the women's half marathon champion, Addison Begeman (1:45:22).  Dara Miller of Rochester Hills, MI captured 2nd (1:50:48) while Sophia Bou-Ghannam of San Mateo, CA finished third overall (1:51:49).

We are grateful to all the volunteers who helped create a positive experience for runners including the Superior Central High School Cross Country Team, the Munising Bay Trail Network, Alger Amateur Radio Association, Munsing Memorial Hospital, Marquette and Alger EMTs and a ton of work from Eric Nelson, Jim Engel, Dawson Yates and Julie Bressette.
