Atayne, of Brunswick, Maine, has become the official race supplier for Great Lakes Endurance.  Atayne crafts shirts from 100% recycled soda bottles sews their shirts in in the U.S.  They are one of the most ecologically minded companies in the U.S.  The November 2008 issue of Trail Runner Magazine featured the North America’s environmental leaders in the sport of trail running.  Jeremy Litchfield, founder of Atayne, was honored in the issue for producing what is considered the most ecological race shirt on the market.  Litchfield contacted Great Lakes Endurance in late 2011 to suggest a partnership, as Great Lakes Endurance is known for its ecological mindfulness in conducting trail running races.  GLE has used organic cotton and recycled fiber shirts, but was impressed with the Atayne shirt, as its wicking fibers are spun entirely from trash - recycled soda bottles.  Moreover, the shirt is sewn in the U.S.  Atayne operates under a model that reduces energy, water, harmful chemicals, emissions, and waste.  They support efforts to combat climate change and promote environmental preservation, also a key goal of Great Lakes Endurance.  Atayne does all this while providing their employees with a world class working environment.  “We are really excited about working with Atayne.  Jeremy is a like minded soul in the effort to make this planet a healthier place to live, work, and enjoy,” noted GLE event director Jeff Crumbaugh.  All event shirts for 2012 are being supplied by Atayne.  They are a super soft, comfortable, functional running shirt in beautiful colors.
